2023 Reading Challenges
Happy New Year, everyone!! I can not believe that we are officially in 2023. This past year went by way too fast; it literally feels like the beginning of 2022 was only a couple weeks ago.
This year, I decided to participate in a few reading challenges. I’ve never done one before and they always look like a lot of fun, so I decided to try some this year. For 2023, I’ll be doing the 12 Reading Challenge, Beat the Backlist, and Let Us Read Middle Grade.
The 12 Reading Challenge
created & hosted by shadowbooker on Instagram
I know I shouldn’t be adding more books to my TBR, but I also love getting book recommendations, so I’ll be fine, right? Some of these I haven’t heard of and some have been on my TBR. Thank you to everyone who recommended books!
The order I read these are subject to change, but this is what I have planned for now.
January: The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke
recommended by my brother
February: If You Could See the Sun by Ann Liang
recommended by Suhani @ Random Reader’s Rambles
March: Today Tonight Tomorrow by Rachel Lynn Soloman
recommended by Amaya @ Mauve Mumblings
April: The Sword of Kaigen by M.L. Wang
recommended by Mesal @ earthly abode
May: The Fountains of Silence by Ruta Sepetys
recommended by Morgan @ Morgan is Reading Again
June: Better Than the Movies by Lynn Painter
recommended by Zoe (participant in NaNoWriMo YWP)
July: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
recommended by my mom
August: 1984 by George Orwell
recommended by Phlox (participant in NaNoWriMo YWP)
September: This Rebel Heart by Katherine Locke
recommended by a participant in NaNoWriMo YWP
October: On a Sunbeam by Tillie Walden
recommended by lilac_axolotl
November: Not My Problem by Ciara Smyth
recommended by Anoushka @ Dipped in Ink
December: Heartless by Marissa Meyer
recommended by Grizz (participant in NaNoWriMo YWP)
Beat the Backlist
Okay, this challenge will actually help my TBR. I always get caught in the new releases, so there are books on my TBR that were published a long time ago. Hopefully, this will help that problem. For this challenge, I’ll be doing the 24 prompt list.

Let Us Read Middle Grade
There are no specific prompts or requirements for what books you can read, so I just compiled a list of ten middle grade books I’d like to read in 2023. If I end up reading more than ten MG books, I’ll be even happier, but for now, this is what I’m aiming for.
Are you participating in any reading challenges this year? Which ones?
Have you read any of the books I mentioned?
