The Me & Music Tag

Hey, everyone! I hope you’re all doing well. Today I am doing a tag, but not one that’s book-related. It’s all about music! I saw Abby @ Beyond the Read do this and it looked way too fun to pass up the chance of doing it as well.

I’m including a link to the music video (or lyric video) for each song.

Rules:

  • RULE NΒ°1: Tag the creator (Sophie @ Me & Ink) so anyone can find their way to the full lists of prompts/graphics.
  • RULE NΒ°2: Choose how many prompts you want to do (up to 17). Free feel to use (or not use) the headings or the graphics (either old or new versions).
  • RULE NΒ°3: Name 1-5 songs per prompt and have fun!

“8 Letters” by Why Don’t We

If all it is is eight letters
Why is it so hard to say?
If all it is is eight letters
Why am I in my own way?

I love the message in this song. I think it’s something so many people can relate to. Trusting someone enough that you can say “I love you” to them is scary and this song encapsulates that feeling perfectly.

“Ballerina” by Jeremy Shada

What’s the point of sleep if it’s not with you
Your lipstick on my cheek looking like a tattoo
My ballerina sway me side to side
All I need is a little love and care tonight

This song is so sweet. I loved Jeremy Shada in Julie and the Phantoms and when I discovered he was making music, I immediately went searching.

“Love Story” by Taylor Swift

Romeo, take me somewhere we can be alone
I’ll be waiting, all there’s left to do is run
You’ll be the prince and I’ll be the princess
It’s a love story, baby, just say “Yes”

I don’t listen to Taylor Swift very often, but this is probably one of my favorite songs by her. It’s such a good song to sing along to.

“dance (end of the world)” by mxmtoon

I just wanna dance, dance, dance like I’m light on my feet
And if the whole world’s burnin’, hold on closer to me
If you’re lonely and you know it
Then clap your hands and show it
You can dance, dance, dance with me

This song always gets my head nodding. It’s such a catchy song and so upbeat, you can’t help but dance to it. And it’s about dancing!

“Dancing Queen” by ABBA

You are the dancing queen
Young and sweet, only seventeen
Dancing queen
Feel the beat from the tambourine, oh yeah

I can’t forget about the ABBA classic! My yoga teacher played this in class when we were doing our fitness day and it honestly got me hyped up.

“A Million Dreams” by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (sung by Ziv Zaifman, Hugh Jackman, and Michelle Williams) (The Greatest Showman)

‘Cause every night I lie in bed
The brightest colors fill my head
A million dreams are keeping me awake

I was obsessed with this song when I was younger. It was definetely my favorite song from the movie. And my favorite movie at some point. I remember watching it at one of my birthday parties.

“Don’t Give Up On Me” by Andy Grammer (Five Feet Apart)

I’m not givin’ up
I’m not givin’ up, givin’ up, no, not me (Not me)
Even when nobody else believes (Believes)
I’m not goin’ down that easily
So don’t give up on me

I’ve mentioned that I loved the movie for the Five Feet Apart adaptation. A little while ago, though, my friend mentioned how they didn’t end the movie how they ended the book and I’m not sure how I feel about the movie anymore. I still loved the rest of it, but now that my friend brought it up, they could’ve done the ending better. Nevertheless, I love this song and that will never change.

Little Voice Soundtrack by Sara Bareilles (sung by Brittany O’Grady)

I could not pick one song from the Little Voice soundtrack, so I just put the whole thing here. I recently finished watching this and was sad to discover that Apple TV is not making another season. I loved the representation in the show, the plot was interesting, and Sara Bareilles wrote the songs which were all fantastic.

“bon iver” by mxmtoon

Playin’ Bon Iver on late night drives
My window, moon, and fireflies
Holdin’ on to moments that we found
Even when the sun goes down (Down)

A lot of mxmtoon’s songs have a chill, but upbeat vibe to them and this is definitely one of them. I love her calm but happy melodies.

“Fight Song” by Rachel Platten

This is my fight song
Take back my life song
Prove I’m alright song
My power’s turned on
Starting right now, I’ll be strong
I’ll play my fight song

This song has been around for a while but it’s a very empowering song that always gets me hyped up when I hear it.

“Rise Up” by Andra Day

And I’ll rise up, I’ll rise like the day
I’ll rise up, I’ll rise unafraid
I’ll rise up
And I’ll do it a thousand times again

Someone sang this at our LGBTQ+ parade this year and I’ve heard it at quite a few protests. I love the empowering message behind it.

“I Built a Friend” by Alec Benjamin

And we had so much fun together
We knew we’d be friends forever
And we had so much fun together
We had so much fun

This might not seem like a sad song at first, but the music video hits different.

“Fix You” by Coldplay

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

I feel like this song will become a classic when it comes to sad songs.

Sara Kays

Instead of a song, I’m putting an artist, because I can’t choose one of her songs. I’ve vaguely known about Sara Kays for a little while, but I never listened to any of her music. The first song I listened to by her was “Traffic Lights” and immediately fell in love with that. I then listened to a bunch of her other songs and fell in love with those too.

“Can We Pretend That We’re Good?” by Daniel Seavey

Oh, my darling, can we pretend that we’re good?
Just for the night ’til the morning
I’d take it back if I could

I am so sad that Why Don’t We is currently on hiatus because of their legal challenges with their manager. I am hoping that WDW can get back together soon. But, Daniel released his first solo song and I am in love with it. I also loved “Bleed on Me” that he released a few months ago.

“The Exit” by Conan Gray

Feels like we had matching wounds
But mine’s still black and bruised
And yours is perfectly fine
Feels like we buried alive
Something that never died

Conan Gray himself hasn’t ever been in a relationship but he writes songs like he has. The emotions that he puts into his songs.

“If We Have Each Other” by Alec Benjamin

The world’s not perfect, but it’s not that bad
If we got each other, and that’s all we have
I will be your mother, and I’ll hold your hand
You should know I’ll be there for you

This song has so much meaning in it and I love the lyrics in it. Alec wrote this for his sister and the message of how we’re strengthened by loved ones shines through so brightly.

“Firework” by Katy Perry

‘Cause baby, you’re a firework
Come on show ’em what you’re worth
Make ’em go, “Awe, awe, awe”
As you shoot across the sky-y-y

My friend and I were obsessed with this song in fourth grade. I remember singing the song with her while we jumped on my trampoline. I don’t know why we loved it so much–maybe it was the lyrics, maybe it was just because it sounded cool.

“Heat Waves” by Glass Animals

Sometimes, all I think about is you
Late nights in the middle of June
Heat waves been fakin’ me out
Can’t make you happier now

When I was at summer camp, one of the counselors from a different unit had a speaker and was playing this song while we were walking to breakfast. Now, whenever I hear it, I think about trudging up a hill, surrounded by trees, at one of my favorite summer camps.

“Just Friends” by Why Don’t We

Baby, don’t you say that we’re just friends
When you know we could be lovers instead
Wanna give you a night you’ll never forget
Do the things wΠ΅ never did

I love this song so much! I love the rhythm and the lyrics and the fact that the music video is just the boys in suits running around on a grassy hill is amazing.

“Disaster” by Conan Gray

This could be a disaster
There’s so many factors, like, what if you freak out
And then we’re losin’ it all at the critical chapter
Where I say, “I love you” and you don’t say it after?
This could be a disaster

This song is just so chaotic, I love it. And that chorus is fantastic.

“Sunroof” by Nicky Youre

I got my head out the sunroof
I’m blasting our favorite tunes
I only got one thing on my mind

I first heard this song coming from my older brother’s room and thought it sounded cool. I know can’t not sing it if I hear it. Again, it’s one of those really catchy songs that’s just upbeat and positive.

“Fallin’ (Adrenaline)” by Why Don’t We

The energy is this video is everything. This was WDW’s first song released after their hiatus in 2020 and it is so good!

“Older” by Alec Benjamin

This video feels so nostalgic, kind of. Alec wrote about growing up and not being ready to become an adult yet. I love how he got all his friends back together for the music video.

Do you listen to any of these artists? What are some songs that you have to sing along to?
