Let’s Talk Bookish: Do You Get Overwhelmed by Your TBR Pile?

Hey, everyone, happy Friday! I hope you’re all doing well. I am very glad that it is Friday because I get a three-day weekend for Labor Day. School gets exhausting so I’m looking forward to having an extra day to catch up on sleep.

Today I have another discussion post! This one is all about my TBR, which is in desperate need of shortening.

Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly meme created by Rukky @ Eternity Books and hosted by Aria @ Book Nook Bits where we discuss various topics and share our opinions. Today’s topic is Do You Get Overwhelmed by Your TBR Pile? (suggested by Jillian @ Jillian the Bookish Butterfly).

Prompts: How do you keep track of the books you want to read? Do you have a lot of books on your TBR? Is there any order/organization within all the books you want to read? Does your TBR ever feel overwhelming?

My TBR is very, very long. I keep track of all the books I want to read on a google spreadsheet. I note down the title of the book, author, series, genre, age group, if I own it, and if it’s published yet. It’s a lot of information, but I like it, especially if I’m looking for a particular book to read. I can control-f a specific genre or age group.

As of the time I’m writing this, August 30, I have 144 books on my TBR. Most of them are young adult but there’s a good amount of middle grade in there and a few adult books as well. Fantasy and contemporary are the most prevalent genres, which I’m not very surprised about.

I don’t really have any organization to my TBR. The books I want to read more are at the top and the books that aren’t priority are near the bottom. Other than that, there’s no order to any of it. Sometimes I’ll just pick a random book from the list to read next, not following the order that they’re in. A lot of it depends on what my mood is and what I feel like reading.

The only thing that’s always at the bottom of my list are the books that haven’t been released yet. They’re separated and once the book gets published, I’ll move it to join the rest of the books on the list.

I definitely get overwhelmed by my TBR sometimes. There’s just so many books and so little time to read everything I want. A lot of the time, I don’t know what to read next since there’s so many to choose from. It’s like for every book I finish, three more get added to my TBR. It’s a never ending list that I will most likely never be able to finish. But I guess that’s okay. At least I’ll never run out of book possibilities.
