Wrap-Ups

August Wrap-Up | School Starts and my Reading Plummets

This year just keeps flying by! We’re through eight months and I’m already in my fourth week of school. It’s been a bit difficult to adjust back to school, especially since I have to wake up at 6 am. We’ve only been learning for about two weeks (our first week was a lot of ‘get to know you’ things and simple stuff), but I’ve already had a few quizzes. I mean, it is junior year, so maybe I shouldn’t be surprised.

BOOKS READ

Well, that number went down. In my defense, I went to summer camp at the beginning of August for five days and had literally no time to read. The two books I brought remained untouched the whole time. So, I had a late start. And this book took me a long time to read. It’s got a lot in it and I wanted to take my time with it.

We Were Dreamers by Simu Liu|📖|★★★★|my review
This was a great read, with a deep dive into Simu Liu’s childhood and life before acting. I loved the way he narrated his story and shared not only his story, but his parents’ as well. This is the first memoir I’ve willingly read and it was a great one to start with.

CURRENTLY READING

Forging Silver into Stars
by Brigid Kemmerer

I am actually really close to finishing this book. I was happy to be able to return to the world of Emberfall and Syhl Shallow, meet new characters, and see what happened to some old ones, mainly Tycho. I love that he’s getting his own story.

MY POSTS

I managed to keep up a pretty consistent schedule even while starting school! I’m hoping I can continue to do that, but things, of course, never go as planned. Here are my posts for the month:

You may have noticed the new featured image for this post. I’ve been wanting to change them up for a while now and I could never make a design that I liked. I finally came up with this one, which I like a lot better than my last ones. It’s not a whole lot different, but still a bit of a change.

AROUND THE BLOGOSPHERE

BLOGS I DISCOVERED

I unfortunately wasn’t able to do too much bloghopping this month and thus, this section is going to be empty.

I was able to get a little bit of writing done this month. And by a little, I mean like, two pages. It was a busy month, though, so I’m not unhappy with it. I have a couple ideas of how I want the story to go. The draft is almost finished, which I’m glad about. I’m hoping to finish before the end of the year which I think is achievable. Even if that doesn’t happen until December.

And to make things even better, my brain came up with a new story idea that will not stop nagging at me. Yay and also not yay 😐

☀️ I went to summer camp at the beginning of the month! I talked about this a bit in my last wrap-up post, but that was right before I left. Camp was so fun! Time works really weirdly at camp. The days felt slow because there was so much happening but the entire week felt so fast. But at the same time, when we were leaving to go back home, the beginning of the week felt so long ago. Anyways, I had a great time and can’t wait to go back next year!

✏️ I started school. That’s not as exciting. So far, junior year hasn’t been too bad. All my teachers are pretty good and our homework load isn’t too much. (Knock on wood.) It’s been nice to see my friends and talk to them after the summer. And, I got first violin for orchestra! I’m surprised that my orchestra teacher put me on it, but I’m not complaining. The music is a bit harder, but I’m enjoying the challenge.

🚗 I had another driving lesson! I’ve been practicing a lot since my first lesson and it all paid off. We went on the freeway this time and to be honest, it was a bit underwhelming. But that’s good, I suppose! The only thing different is the speed. We also worked on changing lanes in heavier traffic, which I really need to work on.

August Goals:

  • Read 5 books ❌
  • Post 7 times ✅
  • Practice driving ✅

September Goals:

  • Read 5 books
  • Post 7 times
  • Work on WIP (even just a little bit)

How was your August? Did you read any good books?
Do you have any fun plans for September?
