May Wrap-Up | School is Out!
I am officially done with my sophomore year of high school! My last day was yesterday, ending with my chemistry final. I am really glad school is done, I am in desperate need of a break. And, now I have roughly two months until school starts again, so I am planning to make the most if it. For now, let’s get into my wrap-up for May!
BOOKS READ
When We Were Infinite by Kelly Loy Gilbert|π|β

I loved Kelly Loy Gilbert’s other novel, Picture Us in the Light, so I knew I had to read this one. I loved how the book centered on friendship and how the characters developed over time, especially Beth.
Three Keys (Front Desk #2) by Kelly Yang|π±|β

I read the first book in this series around two years ago and I only discovered that it was turned into a series a few months ago. Three Keys was a great read, exploring the relationships between Mia and Lupe and Mia and Jason. It also dealt with some heavy topics which I thought were handled really well.
Room to Dream (Front Desk #3) by Kelly Yang|π±|β
β
β
β
Room to Dream was a lot of fun to read. I’ve been to China before, and when Mia went back and saw all the sights, I remembered them from my own trip. Obviously it was different because Mia was in China in the 90s, but still.
We Dream of Space by Erin Entrada Kelly|π±|β

.5
I enjoyed this book enough, but I didn’t think it was the greatest. I felt like the characters could’ve been developed more and the ending was a bit anticlimactic. I did enjoy the space aspect though.
Heartstopper: Volume Two by Alice Oseman|π±|β

I read the first volume at the end of April and had to wait for weeks until this hold came. I love how wholesome and loving this series is. Charlie and Nick are perfect for each other and I love how Nick is slowly figuring out who he is.
A Wish in the Dark by Christina Soontornvat|π±|β

This book was so good. I love the worldbuilding and the characters. The thing that stuck out to me the most was how the author explored justice and the striking difference between the wealthy and the poor.

BLOGS I DISCOVERED
Jillian the Bookish Butterfly – I found out about Jillian’s blog through Let’s Talk Bookish and really enjoyed reading her thoughts on the topics.
Bookish Rebel – This blog is run by Vel, who has a bunch of interesting bookish content. She’s a fantasy reader, like me, so I bet I’ll be getting recommendations from her posts.
Dazed Chronicles – This blog is run by Janhavi, who used to run a different blog before redesigning. I love the aesthetic of it and her blogging voice is really engaging.
I didn’t work on my WIP this month, but I did talk about it. I started participating in a new meme that was started in May, called Pretty Deadly Words. I linked it above, in my posts, and there, I talked some about my WIP, so that counts, right?
I’m hoping that I’ll work on it this month, since I don’t have school anymore and will have more time. I really want to work on it, since Camp NaNoWriMo is happening in July. I’d preferably like to start a new draft in July, so I might just stop draft 3 and move onto draft 4. Or maybe it would be considered draft 3.5.
π« I had my final orchestra concert of the school year. Because our last concert and this one were so close together, we did quartet groups. I was in a quintet since we had an odd number of people. It was a lot of fun to play in a small group. We decided on playing Danza Pastorale, part of Spring by Antonio Vivaldi. It was a pretty fun song to play and I think our performance went well.
π« I had finals! Technically, this was earlier this week, mostly in June, but I’m still going to talk about them. They went better than I expected them to. I had to write an on demand essay for English and I thought it was going to be harder. Luckily, it went well and I ended up getting a good grade on it. History, math, and Spanish were my stronger areas. The hardest one for me was chemistry. I think I did alright, so I’m crossing my fingers that it’s true.
