Top Ten Tuesday: Most Anticipated Releases For the First Half of 2022

Happy new year, everyone! The weird and sucky year that was 2021 is now gone; let’s hope 2022 will be better 🤞 Honestly, it doesn’t feel like the new year–it’s just any other day. My brain thinks so too; I will be writing 2021 as the date for at least the next month before it catches up and realizes we’ve moved on to a different year. Okay, enough talking about the year.

Welcome to the first post of the year! (I did it again, didn’t I?) Today we’re talking about book releases for 2022. There are so many great books coming out this year that I want to read, it’s impossible to keep up. Quite frankly, I haven’t even read any of the books I talked about in my anticipated releases for the 2nd half of 2021 post. Goes to show how well I don’t keep up.

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl where there is a topic and you make a list that best fits it. Today’s topic is Most Anticipated Releases For the First Half of 2022.

Daughter of the Moon Goddess by Sue Lynn Tan|YA Fantasy|Release Date: January 11
I learned about the legend of Chang’e when I was younger and it always fascinated me. When I found out that this book was inspired by the tale, I knew I had to read it. Sue Lynn Tan also mentioned that this was friends-to-lovers-to-enemies which sounds right up my alley.

Cold the Night, Fast the Wolves by Meg Long|YA Fantasy|Release Date: January 11
This seems like a perfect book for the winter time, seeing that it takes place on a frozen planet. The premise is very intriguing and from what I’ve heard of it, the reactions are mostly positive. Also, wolves are really cool.

These Deadly Games by Diana Urban|YA Mystery/Thriller|Release Date: February 1
I want to read more mystery books this year and These Deadly Games seems like a perfect fit for it. A girl playing a deadly game in order to save her little sister from death sounds gripping and intense.

Wishing Upon the Same Stars by Jacquetta Nammar Feldman|MG Contemporary|Release Date: February 1
This book sounds so sweet! It deals with friendship and coming-of-age, as well as some heavier topics such as prejudice and the Israel-Palestine conflicts. Middle grade books always have a comforting sense to them and even with the heavier topics handled in this book, I feel like it’s going to more light-hearted than if this were a YA book.

The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea
by Axie Oh|YA Fantasy|Release Date: February 22
This book sounds amazing and apparently, it was compared to Spirited Away which is one of my favorite Studio Ghibli movies. The mythology around the story sounds super interesting and the cover is gorgeous.

One for All by Lillie Lainoff|YA Historical Fiction|Release Date: March 8
I don’t think I’ve read a book with a character that has a chronic illness, so I’m looking forward to One for All. This has strong, female protagonists, which I something I like to see in books, as well as found family, one of my favorite tropes.

Where the Sky Lives by Margaret Dilloway|MG Contemporary|Release Date: March 8
I love the outdoors and astronomy and this book has both. I will probably pick up any book that has something to do with the stars; I don’t know why, outer space just fascinates me. Where the Sky Lives sounds like a sweet, enjoyable read, and it kind of reminds of Hoot by Carl Hiaasen.

Queen of the Tiles by Hanna Alkaf|YA Mystery|Release Date: April 19
A murder mystery, I am all for it! I haven’t read a lot of books with Muslim rep in them, so I’m interested to see what I will learn about it from this book.

Family of Liars (We Were Liars #0.5) by E. Lockhart|YA Mystery|Release Date: May 3
We Were Liars was a very good but also kind of confusing read and I’m eager to read the prequel to it. I feel like I’m going to be shocked at some point while reading this book because that’s what happened with the original book, but we’ll see.

This Place is Still Beautiful by XiXi Tian|YA Contemporary|Release Date: June 7
First of all, that cover is beautiful. Second of all, this book sounds amazing and I can’t wait to read it. It’s one of race, family, and secrets we keep from one another.

Are you excited for any of these books? What are some anticipated releases you’re waiting for?
