August Wrap-Up | School Started and I’m Exhausted
This month was exhausting. It was pretty good overall but so many things happened. I’ll talk a but more about what’s going on later in this post, but for now, let’s go through the past month.
BOOKS READ
I only managed to read 2 books this month, which is my lowest yet. These Violent Delights told me a long time to get through and I didn’t have that much time to read, unfortunately. And also, I did not stick to my TBR I was planning to do at all this month.
These Violent Delights (These Violent Delights #1) by Chloe Gong|★★★★1/2
I loved this book so much! All of my incredibly high expectations were met and I loved the characters Gong created. This was an amazing Romeo and Juliet retelling.
Beasts Made of Night (Beasts Made of Night #1) by Tochi Oynebuchi|★★★★
I loved the concept of this book and all the creative worldbuilding that went into it. Taj is a great protagonist and I’m currently loving the second book as well!
STARTED THIS MONTH BUT STILL CR
TBR FOR SEPTEMBER
In addition to Crown of Thunder, I’d like to try to actually follow this TBR. I want to finish the Strange the Dreamer series and read Muse of Nightmares and I’d also like to read Darius the Great is Not Okay. I’ve heard a lot of good things about it and I think I’m going to like it.
I managed to post 7 times this month, including this post, which I think is pretty good, considering how busy I’ve been. Here are my posts for the month:
- July Wrap-Up|Very Busy, Not Exactly in a Good Way
- My Experience with Camp NaNoWriMo|Looking Back on my Goals and What I Accomplished
- 6 Worthy Audiobooks to Listen To
- The Mysterious Benedict Society Books Tag (Original!)
- Review: The Weight of the Stars by K. Ancrum
- Top Ten Tuesday: Books I Wish I Could Read Again for the First Time
Practically nonexistent this month. I continued my WIP a little bit at the beginning of the month but then school started and my schedule got too busy to fit it in. I haven’t finished the draft yet, but I’m roughly halfway through it, so it’s pretty good progress. I’m also contemplating whether to do some more writing related posts in the near future. I haven’t worked everything out yet, but I’m thinking about it.
A lot happened this month. I started my sophomore year of high school, in-person, and it isn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I’m the kind of person who usually expects the worse from things, so I was pleasantly surprised. In-person school is definitely a lot nicer than online, and I’ve met some new people. I wouldn’t called them friends since I’ve only known them for three weeks, but I feel like acquaintance is too little. Anyways, I’ve met some new people and I’m really happy about that.
I don’t think I’ve mentioned this before, but I play soccer and the season started about a week ago. We’re on co-ed teams and we all practice together which is a lot of fun. There are only three teams in our combined age groups, so we’re constantly playing the same team, but it’s still a lot of fun. At our first game, my coach put me as striker, which I’m not usually, I’m usually defense, and I ended up scoring my team’s first goal! My team was getting creamed, and that’s very unfortunate, especially because the other team had already played a game earlier in the day. We ended up tying the game 7-7, which I think is the highest scoring game I’ve even been in.
August Goals:
- Read at least 3 books ❌
- Post at least 5 times ✅
- Finish my WIP draft (or at least make progess on it) ❌
- Drink at least 1 liter of water a day – I have no idea, probably not.
September Goals:
- Read at least 3 books
- Post at least 5 times
- Referee courses
I had a bit more time this month to read other people’s blogs which I’m happy about. Still not a lot, but definetely more than last month. I try to read a few people’s posts every day, but that sometimes doesn’t end up happening. Here are some posts I enjoyed this month:
- Ahaana @ Windows to Worlds celebrated her one-year blogiversary.
- Abby @ Beyond the Read shared 35 books with disability rep in honor of Disability Pride Month.
- Prutha @ Moonchild Lexicons interviewed Aparna Verma, author of The Boy with Fire.
- Rania @ Rania’s Rambling Reads wrote a review for Bloody Spade and also passed 200 followers.
- Cherelle @ A Bolt Out of the Book shared book recommendations based on Marvel movies.
- Anjali @ Books With Anjali shared 5 benefits of audiobooks.
- Chana @ Paper Procrastinators did a discussion on if we must read “must read” classics.
- Kristin @ Kristin Kraves Books shared a list of books without romance.
- Rachel @ A Bookworm’s Paradise shared 8 things she looks for in books.
