The (Very Late) Book Blog Newbie Tag
Hello, everyone! I probably should’ve done this as my first tag, but my organization of posts is not that great. I’ve been blogging for a little over three months, so this is very late, but I still thought I should do it. I’ve seen a variety of people do this, and it looks like a lot of fun. So, without further ado, the questions.
Why did you want to start a book blog?
I started thinking about beginning a book blog sometime last year. On the NaNoWriMo YWP, there was a thread where you could share your blogs. I was looking at it and clicked through some other people’s blogs. They looked really cool and I started thinking that could do one. Reviewing books seemed like a lot of fun as well and it was a good way to exercise my writing skills. Mainly, I started this blog for fun.
Where did the name ‘Pages of Starlight’ come from?
Okay, there’s a bit of a story behind this. When I was younger, about three or four, my dad created an imaginary friend for me, a dragon named Starlight. Starlight was a deep sapphire blue dragon, and before bed, my dad would tell me stories about how at night or during the early hours of dawn, I would go on adventures with Starlight. The ‘pages’ part I added in refers to pages of reading or pages of writing, and I also thought it sounded nice as well.
Oh, and on a different note, I like astronomy and things to do with outer space, so ‘starlight’ fit in perfectly for my blog name.
What are some fun and unique things you can bring to book blogging? What can we expect from your blog in the future?
I’m just going to combine these two questions because they seem to fit together. I think one of the truly unique things that people bring to blogging is their blogging voice. I for one, do not think I have established one. Yet. Also, all the opinions that people talk about and bring to blogging are unique to themselves; everyone has different perspectives on things.
As for posts, here are the main ones you will find on my blog:
- Book Reviews
- Top Ten Tuesdays
- WWW Wednesdays (I’m doing these less often because I think they become slightly boring to read)
- Let’s Talk Bookish
- Book Tags
- Photography (occasionally)
- Book Lists/Recommendations
Why do you love reading? Did you always love reading?
Reading transports me to a different place, a different time, a different story. It lets me escape reality and just. . . take a break from the real world. I can travel the world and beyond from the comfort of my own home.
I’ve loved reading ever since I learned how to. I’ve always been the bookworm type, reading a book on the playground at recess instead of running around and playing games. Well. . . not always. I did used to play games on the play structure, until about fourth grade when playing at recess was just not the “thing” and people most just sat around and talked. Then I would bring my book out and read for half an hour before I had to go back to class. I’m like Belle, I’ll read and walk at the same time. Not very safe, yes I know.
I truly do not think I could live in a world without books. I don’t know what I’d do with my time. Besides blogging, of course. But even still, without books, there wouldn’t be things for me to blog about!
When and where do you like to read?
I read whenever I feel like it. I mostly read before bed, just to relax a little bit and wind down. With school and everything, I’ve been finding it difficult to have time to really sit down and enjoy a book. I mostly read in my room, on my bed, or at my desk.
What kind of books do you like to read?
Fantasy! I love reading about different worlds that people have created, it’s so fun. I tend to read books with magic or magical realism. Some of my favorite fantasy books are the Graceling Realm Series by Kristin Cashore, The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern, and the Song of the Lioness Series by Tamora Pierce.
I also like historical fiction and mystery novels. Some historical fiction books I recommend are Outrun the Moon by Stacey Lee, Under a Painted Sky by Stacey Lee, and The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. Some mystery novels I loved are the One of Us is Lying Series by Karen M. McManus and We Were Liars by E. Lockhart.
What is your favorite book and why?
This question? I’m so terrible at answering this. I never know which one to choose! I actually answered this in the Get to Know Ya book tag, so for right now, I’ll say Wonder by R.J. Palacio. It’s just such a heartwarming story and it sends a powerful message about being kind to those who may look different than you.
Who is your favorite author?
Again, I never know how to answer this question! For now, I’ll go with Stacey Lee. She’s my favorite historical fiction author and she creates strong, female protagonists who are also Asian-American, which is a big thing that I look for in books. Her writing is amazing; she knows how to set a scene and really make you feel like you’re there in the moment.
What’s one pet-peeve you have?
This may sound a little odd, but when online documents have misspelled or incorrect grammar and there are the colored lines underneath it, it really annoys me when they don’t get fixed. I don’t know why, I think it just triggers my sense of organization.
What is one book that has been on your TBR for ages?
A Vow So Bold and Deadly by Brigid Kemmerer has been on my TBR since I finished A Heart So Fierce and Broken, which was about a year and a half ago. I know it technically had to be since it wasn’t out yet, but I’m still counting it. With an ending like that in AHSFAB, I couldn’t believe I had to wait nearly two years for the next one to come out. I’m really looking forward to read AVSBAD, but I feel like it’s going to be one of those books that comes back and tortures you and that you can’t stop thinking about. That’s my prediction anyway.
What is your favorite show?
I don’t really watch TV shows that much, more movies. But I am watching one right now. It’s called Upload and it’s really funny. It’s about this world that has a digital afterlife and you can go there when you’re almost going to die. Honestly, it sounds pretty cool, but anyways, it’s a good show.
What is a non-bookish fact about you?
I play the violin and the ukulele! I’ve been playing violin for seven years and I only just started ukulele. It’s pretty easy for me since I know how to read music and playing an instrument that has no such thing as frets makes fingering on a ukulele a lot easier.
On the violin, I especially enjoy playing Lindsey Stirling’s music. She’s an incredible violinist and dancer and her songs are so much fun to learn.
And that concludes this very wonderful tag! I had a lot of fun doing it and if you want to do it, I tag you!
Oh and I won’t be checking my blog until next Monday, because I’m going on vacation for Spring break where there’s no wi-fi, so just to let you know.

The story about where the name of your blog came from is so sweet π₯Ί
I haven’t read Wonder yet but it’s on my TBR and it sounds like an amazing book. Have you watched the movie adaptation? If so, do you think it’s accurate to the book?
I love that you play the violin *and* the ukelele!! That’s so impressive to me! I only play the piano and I already find it challenging, I can’t imagine being able to play the violin which is one of the hardest instruments to play!
Awesome post! I’m glad you decided to do this tag, even if it’s a bit late π
Lotus @ Pages of Starlight
Thank you!
I really enjoyed the book and the movie! I think it was pretty accurate and it was done well.
Thanks! The piano is really cool, I tried to learn when I was younger but never really had an interest in it.

Oooh good to know! I’ll watch the movie after I get around to the book π
I totally get that, I felt the same way when I tried playing the guitar for a while, it wasn’t really my thing.
