Let’s Talk Bookish: Do You Run a BookTube? Why/Why Not?
Hey, everyone, happy Friday! It’s been a few weeks since I’ve done an LTB, so I’m back with another one.
Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly meme created by Rukky @ Eternity Books and is hosted by Rukky and Dani @ Literary Lion where we discuss various topics and share our opinions. Today’s topic is Do You Run a BookTube? Why/Why Not? (suggested by Dani.)
I don’t run a BookTube. I only recently found out that there was such a thing. Since I only started blogging a few months ago, booktubing isn’t something that has ever crossed my mind as a possibility.
If you only blog why have you chosen blogging over booktubing?
The main reason why I don’t booktube is because then that would involve revealing my face online. I do not wish to do that, mostly because of internet safety and the fact that I’m just not that comfortable with doing it. Another reason is that I would not do well with filming myself. I’m kind of awkward when it comes to just freely speaking and if I were to be making videos, I don’t think my verbal communication would be very smooth.
There’s also just something about designing graphics and blog posts that I really like. I’m kind of a perfectionist when it comes to stuff like this, so I like doing it and probably spend way too much time fixing everything. It really satisfies me when I get it the way I want, though.
Do you think one format does certain things better than the other?
Both blogging and booktubing have their own things that are better than the other. With blogging, it’s more accessible in a way. You can read it when you’re traveling or on a break without disturbing anyone else. If you want to watch a booktube video, but you don’t have headphones, you’re probably going to have to wait for a better time to watch it without distracting people around you.
Also, with blogging, I think it gets more attention. Not in viewing numbers, but in the sense that, when you’re reading it, you actually have to look at the blog post and see the words. For booktubing, you could listen to the video while doing a chore, say folding laundry or something.
An advantage booktubing has is that you can feel more connected in a way. It seems more real if you see the person’s face expressions when they’re talking about a book they really like or don’t like. With blogging, you just see the words on the page. However, people like me who may not like to show their faces on the internet have blogging as a way to express our thoughts without showing our faces.
Do you ever want to run a booktube if you don’t already?
For me, I would most likely not want to run a booktube. It sounds really fun and a great way to share your thoughts about books and reading, I’m just not a person who does well in front of a camera.
